Glass disk 'will store data for billions of years

Now a technology has come in the field of storage devices that will store your data for billions of years. Researchers at the University of South Hampton have created simple glass-like "internal storage systems". Up to 360 TB (terabytes) of data can be recorded through laser technology.

Researchers at the Optoelectronics Research Center have created this "Superman glass crystal". Researchers are currently looking for companies that can make it available in the market. Such stores will have dataglass discs that have three layers with a distance of five micrometres.

The researchers adopted the femtosecond laser writing technique, through which they wrote on glass. It will have some crystals that will decode the light in words using laser technology. Later it can be read through optical microscope and polarizer.

Glass disc features

360 TB storage capacity.
The data will remain in store for 13.8 billion years at 190 degrees.
Lifetime storage at normal temperature.
Advantage

Ease of data storage in departments like Library, Museum, Law, National Archive.
The data will remain in the same form for many years.
There is also no harm due to loss of books etc. from digital records.
Easy access to data in digital form.
