Medical College Baroda is affiliated to, and is technically the Faculty of Medicine of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda conducts all the university examinations of the Faculty of Medicine and awards undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees.
The Objective of the University
The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda is a distinct type of University-a teaching and residential University which has complete freedom in all academic matters and is free to institute new branches of studies suited to the needs and aspirations of the region in particular and of the country in general.
Structure of the University
His Highness the Maharaja of Baroda is the Chancellor of the University. The Vice-Chancellor is the principal executive and academic officer of the University and is to be assisted in his work by Pro-Vice Chancellor. The Senate is the supreme governing body and authority of the University and the Syndicate, its executive authority. Among the other authorities of the University is the council of Post-graduate Studies and Research which has to deal with all matters relating to instruction, training and research in the various subjects taught in the University. The other authorities of the University are the Faculties and the Boards of Studies there under, which are principally responsible for making recommendations in the matter of the course of studies, textbooks and generally on academic matters. The Act deals with the residence of the students and lays down that all students of the University should reside in the hostels of the University or under conditions laid down by the relevant Ordinances. Provision has also been made in the Act for the establishment of a Board of Extra-mural Studies, a students Welfare Board, a Publications Board and such other Boards as may be prescribed by the Statutes. Besides the usual Faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Medicine, Technology (including Engineering), Law and Agriculture, the University is authorized to institute new Faculties of Education and Psychology, Home Science, Fine Arts and Social Work.
All courses offered by the University have English as the medium of instruction. However, the courses for specialization in Indian Languages have the respective language as the medium of instruction.

Professor Parimal H. Vyas is a Vice-Chancellor of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda [MSU] Gujarat w.e.f.11th February, 2016. Earlier, Professor Vyas served as Acting Vice-Chancellor, and the Pro Vice-Chancellor, MSU (w. e. f. 29th December, 2014 till 11th February, 2016). He is the First Dual Professor appointed as Professor of Management Studies [2014], Faculty of Management Studies, and also Professor of Commerce and Business Management, Faculty of Commerce at MSU, Baroda. He has also served as Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Head of the Department, Department of Commerce & Business Management, Faculty of Commerce, MSU, Baroda. He has also been Syndicate & Senate Member of the MSU Baroda. Presently, Professor Vyas is also Chairman of Syndicate & Senate of MSU of Baroda. Professor Vyas is an Alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA). Professor Vyas has obtained Ph.D. in Commerce from Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar & Master’s Degree in Management from MSU, Baroda. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae; abbreviated in many ways, most commonly MBBS, but also MB ChB, BMBS, MB BCh, MB BChir), is the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The historical degree nomenclature states that they are two separate undergraduate degrees. In practice, however, they are usually combined as one and conferred together, and may also be awarded at graduate-level medical schools.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), is a professional degree in medical science. A person holding the MBBS degree becomes a certified medical practitioner. The duration of MBBS course is five years and six months including one year of rotational internship at hospitals, health centres, and health camps organised by non-profit organisations (NGOs). MBBS course syllabus includes studies on anatomy, pharmacology, pathology as well as community health & medicine, paediatrics, and surgery. The syllabus, prescribed in such a way that MBBS degree holders can choose a specialisation for further majoring and practising medicine. The career specialisations for MBBS students are Nephrology, Cardiology, Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Organ Transplant, Endocrine, and General Surgery, etc.
MD - Anaesthesiology
The purpose of PG education is to create specialists who would provide high quality health care and advance the cause of science through research & training. A post graduate specialist having undergone the required training in anesthesiology should be able to recognize the health needs of the community. He or she should be competent to handle effectively medical problems and should be aware of the recent advances pertaining to his/her specialty. She/he should be highly competent anesthesiologist with broad range of skills that will enable him/her to practice anesthesiology independently. The PG student should also acquire the basic skills in teaching of medical/para-medical students. She/he is also expected to know the principles of research methodology and modes of consulting library. She/he should attend conferences, workshops and CMEs regularly to upgrade his/her knowledge. The purpose of this document is to provide teachers and learners illustrative guidelines to achieve defined outcomes through learning and assessment. This document was prepared by various subject-content specialists. The Reconciliation Board of the Academic Committee has attempted to render uniformity without compromise to purpose and content of the document. Compromise in purity of syntax has been made in order to preserve the purpose and content. This has necessitated retention of “domains of learning” under the heading “competencies”

Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry explores the major psychiatric syndromes like psychotic, mood and anxiety disorders, psychological effects of physical diseases, the doctor-patient relationship, human development, patient interviewing, and ethical issues in medicine. It is a three-year postgraduation course and can be pursued by any MBBS holders from a University recognized by Medical council of India. Most psychiatrists practice general psychiatry. Sub-specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Geriatric psychiatry can be conducted after M. D. in Psychiatry.
