             Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital was started from the academic year 2003-04 with the aim of providing excellent medical education run by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust established in 1984 and it has come under the ambit of BHARATH INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION & RESEARCH in the year 2004. The hospital stated under graduate -MBBS admission of 100 per academic year from the year 2003-2004 onwards. Our college has started Postgraduate courses from the academic year from 2009 -2010 with an annual intake of 60 seats in various broad specialities. At present it is elevated with an annual intake of 250 admissions per year for undergraduate course in medicine (M.B.B.S) and 163 seats (M.D/M.S/DM) per year in various postgraduate and Super speciality courses.

Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital complex has been raised in an area of 30.89 acres, ideally located with salubrious surroundings. It is provided with state of art infrastructure in term of its blocks of buildings, which include cozy, comfortable and well-furnished departments, laboratories, classrooms for students, separate quarters for staff and nurses besides equipments of latest technological quality.
The institution is backed by highly qualified and experienced staff, well equipped laboratories, library, and modern teaching aids.The Hospital services are fully computerized as per the requirement of the MCI. At present, the hospital has 1190 in-patient beds with 13 state-of-the-art operation theatres. Apart from the other facilities , there are 60 intensive care beds with the 24 hours hi-tech trauma care facility, serving a wide cross-section of the community, belonging to every economic segment of society.

Free medical service is given to the poor and needy people. Separate rural and urban health training centres have also been established so as to impart field practice training to medical students and helping the needy people nearby and those in remote rural areas.

The college has a separate sophisticated and well equipped Research & Development Wing with a capacity of more than 70 faculty. The college has emerged as a pioneer in the state of Tamil Nadu by providing medical and health care programs through internationalization, innovation in academic and research studies.

Critical Care

SBMCH has largest intensive care facility. With 60 intensive care beds and the latest in monitoring and ventilating equipment, the team of dedicated intensivists provide life saving care to many critically ill patients. The neonatal intensive care unit takes pride in rescuing severely premature children with complex congenital problems. The specialty neuro and cardiac ICUs provide advanced care to patients with cardiac illnesses and neurovascular conditions.

Cardiac Care

SBMCH has created centers of excellence that provide focused expertise of a quality that is unparalleled in the region. The Cardiac Care Center provides ambulatory care for patients with rheumatic and coronary artery disease, disturbances of cardiac rhythm and cardiomyopathy. Besides curing ailments of the heart, the center has outstanding programs that focus on preventing heart disease. Using a balloon and a cath lab, the interventional cardiologist provides a safe and easy approach to treating diseases of blood vessels and heart valves, which would otherwise require surgery. The cardio thoracic program has gained a special reputation for its expertise in treating children with heart ailments including children with complex congenital anomalies. The Cardiac Care Center is one of the few centers in the country to perform cardiac transplantation, provide life support and assist devices and artificial hearts.

Minimally Invasive And Day Care Surgery
Through a small incision and sophisticated laproscopic techniques, the surgeon at SBMCH can operate on almost any organ without much disturbance to surrounding tissues. Because of small incisions high technology and great attention to sterile techniques, long hospitalizations and convalescences have become a thing of the past. Many patients can come in the morning; have their surgery and go back home the same evening to sleep in their own beds.

Neuro-Care Center

The neuro-care center focuses on care of patients with problems with circulation of the brain, epilepsy, disorders of sleep and movement. The neurosurgical team is one of the few in the country with expertise in treating aneurysms and malformations of the blood vessels of the brain. Care of patients with brain tumors and complex epilepsy are other important areas of focus.

DIALYSIS CENTRE

This Centre is headed by an efficient and experienced Nephrologist. Under his control more than 30 to 40patients are undergoing dialysis per day on shift basis. Our Institute is recognised by Govt. of Tamilnadu for organ transplantation..

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae; abbreviated in many ways, most commonly MBBS, but also MB ChB, BMBS, MB BCh, MB BChir), is the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The historical degree nomenclature states that they are two separate undergraduate degrees. In practice, however, they are usually combined as one and conferred together, and may also be awarded at graduate-level medical schools.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), is a professional degree in medical science. A person holding the MBBS degree becomes a certified medical practitioner. The duration of MBBS course is five years and six months including one year of rotational internship at hospitals, health centres, and health camps organised by non-profit organisations (NGOs). MBBS course syllabus includes studies on anatomy, pharmacology, pathology as well as community health & medicine, paediatrics, and surgery. The syllabus, prescribed in such a way that MBBS degree holders can choose a specialisation for further majoring and practising medicine. The career specialisations for MBBS students are Nephrology, Cardiology, Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Organ Transplant, Endocrine, and General Surgery, etc.

MD - Anaesthesiology

The purpose of PG education is to create specialists who would provide high quality health care and advance the cause of science through research & training. A post graduate specialist having undergone the required training in anesthesiology should be able to recognize the health needs of the community. He or she should be competent to handle effectively medical problems and should be aware of the recent advances pertaining to his/her specialty. She/he should be highly competent anesthesiologist with broad range of skills that will enable him/her to practice anesthesiology independently. The PG student should also acquire the basic skills in teaching of medical/para-medical students. She/he is also expected to know the principles of research methodology and modes of consulting library. She/he should attend conferences, workshops and CMEs regularly to upgrade his/her knowledge. The purpose of this document is to provide teachers and learners illustrative guidelines to achieve defined outcomes through learning and assessment. This document was prepared by various subject-content specialists. The Reconciliation Board of the Academic Committee has attempted to render uniformity without compromise to purpose and content of the document. Compromise in purity of syntax has been made in order to preserve the purpose and content. This has necessitated retention of “domains of learning” under the heading “competencies”

MD - Psychiatry

M. D. in Psychiatry is a Clinical Speciality course.

Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry explores the major psychiatric syndromes like psychotic, mood and anxiety disorders, psychological effects of physical diseases, the doctor-patient relationship, human development, patient interviewing, and ethical issues in medicine. It is a three-year postgraduation course and can be pursued by any MBBS holders from a University recognized by Medical council of India. Most psychiatrists practice general psychiatry. Sub-specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Geriatric psychiatry can be conducted after M. D. in Psychiatry.
