It's has been nearly 5 years since we embarked on the journey to establish a Medical College in the backward, hilly, tribal district of Wayanad in Kerala. It was an arduous but satisfying task to build the infrastructure and getting qualified faculty in a remote area. We could establish the foundation for an excellent institution in the last few years and manage to get the required qualified faculty. Apart from this, we also have the satisfaction of providing quality emergency care and tertiary treatment, which helped saving hundreds of lives.

India has a huge dearth of doctors – 6,00,000 is the deficiency as per WHO parameters in doctor population ratio. The same is true regarding nurses and other paramedical staff too. We are happy that we have become providers to the depleting pipeline of medical professionals through DM WIMS Medical College & DM WIMS College of Nursing.  In future, we are planning to start courses in Pharmacy, Paramedical Sciences, Healthcare Management, etc.  This will make DM WIMS a comprehensive medical campus to claim status as a Deemed University. Even though there were and are many challenges, we are slowly reaching a stage of stability, due to the relentless efforts of faculty, supporting staff and the management.

It is our earnest endeavor to make DM WIMS Medical College one of the 10 best medical colleges in the country by 2025.

He is the founder of DM WIMS – a Medical College of international standards and MIMS Academy Trust that provides opportunities to over 1000 students through courses ranging from Diploma to Masters. He believes in promoting quality education for a better society and a better future. Dr. Azad Moopen is also the Chairman of Credence School, Dubai, Vice Chairman of three schools in Saudi Arabia and SAFI (Social Advancement Foundation of India), Executive Trustee of the Horizon International School - Calicut and founder of MA Moopen Memorial School for Special Needs which is for the differently abled. Dr. Azad Moopen was conferred with Padma Shri in the year 2011 for his distinguished services to the society. He is also the recipient of Pravasi Bharatiya Samman from the Government of India, Best Doctor Award instituted by the Government of Kerala, Arab Health Award and the prestigious Arabian Business Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the healthcare industry in the Middle East.
