Gujarat cancer society was  founded in 1961 and since then it has been providing care to the patient suffering from cancer at M.P.Shah Cancer Hospital, Civil Hospital Compound, Ahmedabad and Community Oncology Centre (COC), Vasna. Till date, lacs of patients have been diagnosed and treated.

In appreciation of the work undertaken by GCS, the Government of Gujarat has given us the responsibility to develop a new medical college. The Government of Gujarat has given 25 acres of land at the New Swadeshi Mill Compound, Naroda Road, Asarwa, Ahmedabad.

A 720 bedded multi-specialty MediCiti Hospital functioning at Ghanpur since 1992 is attached to MIMS. MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) was started during the year 2002-2003 with annual intake of 100 students. The college has started functioning from 17th October 2002 following admission of 1st batch of students of 100.

It now admits 150 (100 Recognised and 50 Permitted) students per year and is the fastest growing medical college of Gujarat with the target of providing sub speciality education in 15 branches of Medicine & Surgery. It is affiliated to Saurashtra University, Rajkot.
