NEIGRIHMS was established by the Government of India in 1987. It has been designed as a Postgraduate Medical Institute in lineage of AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh. It is the First Postgraduate Medical Institute in the North Eastern Region and the Third in the Country established by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The Institute was registered as a Society on 12th January 1987 by the Registrar of Societies, Meghalaya, Shillong under the name of 

The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) is a premier state funded medical college and hospital located in Porompat, Imphal East, Manipur. It was established in 1989 as Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, commonly referred to as JN Hospital. It has 21 departments, with the addition of a separate Dental College in 2017. As of May 2019, there have been 11 academic batches, nine of the MBBS course and two of the BDS course.

Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital or TMC is a State Government Medical College (run by government's society SFTMC " Society For TMC"). The society was formed by Tripura government. TMC is located in the capital town of Tripura, Agartala, India. The college operates the hospital known as Dr. B. R. Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) is a government medical college located on the lap of Agartala, the capital city of Tripura. It is at Kunjaban near the Malancha Niwas, home of the Manikya Dynasty in Agartala. The college is attached with the G. B. Pant Hospital, which is the hospital of the college. It is completely run by the Government of Tripura.

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) established in the year 1997 as Central Referral Hospital. The first batch of MBBS students were enrolled in the year 2001.

Thirumathi Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, the then Hon’ble Minister for Health, the Government of India inaugurated the Institution on 2.8.1954 at the old Taluk Building at the Fair Weather road, Madurai.

The institution and its teaching hospital are located in a sprawling green campus located right on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway (NH 16).  It is 23 km from the Vijayawada city the biggest Railway Junction in South India and just 5km away from Vijayawada Airport and everyday air flights are available from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi cities.  The campus is well connected by road by Chennai, Kolkata highway number.  The Institute and Hospital was established in Rural Area in Krishna District covering the population around 30 lakhs.
