During 1803, at height of its rule in India, the British India Company (East India Company) had a private army of 260000, twice the size of British Army. Plenty of soldiers used to die, mainly from diarrheal diseases, malaria and kala azar. The only available treatment at that time was traditional Indian medicine. It was not possible to treat this vast number of soldiers with very limited European doctors. Necessity of imparting training to the native people in modern medicine was badly felt.

As Government Medical College, Miraj, , previously known as Miraj Medical College successfully completes 52 years, it may be difficult for visualize the early days when this medical college was almost literally started on a shoestring !

Murshidabad Medical College is a government-run medical college located very near to Berhampore Court Railway Station on Station Road in Berhampore Town at Murshidabad district. The college was established in 2012. The Institute of Child Health (ICH) was set up by Dr K.C. Chaudhuri, the doyen of Indian pediatrics, in Kolkata in 1956. This is a trust run hospital on a no-profit ideal.

Long long ago, once upon a time, on the happy lands of Bhopal arrived a young man with glittering eyes. He was son of an orthodox middle class family who, after completing basic education, got admission to MBBS in 1974 in a prestigious medical college in Punjab.

The boy completed his graduation and post graduation in pediatrics in soon succession. And how destiny could lead him out of nowhere, he arrived in Bhopal in 1984.
