In 1870 the Maharaja of Vijanagaram first floated the idea of starting a Medical College in Lucknow. But the idea was watered down due to paucity of funds. In 1905 the visit of King-Emperor, George V, then Prince of Wales, inspired the idea of establishing a college to commemorate the occasion. The originator of this fine ideal to commemorate the occasion was late Raja Sir Tassadnq Rasul Khan of Jehangirabad to whom Sir Harcourt Butler wrote on 1st December 1905.

G.S.V.M. Medical College is situated in the heart of the historic and industrial city of kanpur. The city of Kanpur is embraced by our most holy river ‘Ganga’ from two sides, northwest (Kalyanpur) and northeast (Jajmau). In the British period our city was known as Cawnpore. It has a special place in Hindu mythology. It’s Bithoor area is famous from Ramayana era. Presently the Kanpur city is famous for its industrial organization and educational institutes. Our city is the economic capital of Uttar Pradesh.

Many students of Government medical college Anantapuramu Regularly attended different student conferences and presented Cases and posters and won the awards. One student by name Manasa had been selected for Republic day parade in Jan-26th 2012 as NSS volunteer . One student by name M. Niharika of 2014 batch had received state best NSS volunteer award on Sep-24th 2018. Government Medical college Anantapuramu has been sanctioned 2nd NSS unit because of its out standing services by 1st unit in 2016. programme officer of NSS.A.

Among the temples of modern India which he designed, was a centre of excellence in the medical sciences. Nehru's dream was that such a centre would set the pace for medical education and research in Southeast Asia , and in this he had the wholehearted support of his Health Minister, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur.
