Dr. B. C. Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric sciences, Kolkata is the new name of Dr. B. C. Roy Memorial Hospital for Children, Kolkata (Estd. 1967) after amalgamation with B. C. Roy Polio Clinic and Hospital for Crippled Children, Kolkata in 28^th September, 2010 with an aim to provide specialized care and treatment facilities as new Medical Institution. The founder Principal of this institute is Prof. (Dr.) Mrinal Kanti Chatterjee.

During 1803, at height of its rule in India, the British India Company (East India Company) had a private army of 260000, twice the size of British Army. Plenty of soldiers used to die, mainly from diarrheal diseases, malaria and kala azar. The only available treatment at that time was traditional Indian medicine. It was not possible to treat this vast number of soldiers with very limited European doctors. Necessity of imparting training to the native people in modern medicine was badly felt.

Located in Midnapore (West Bengal), Midnapore Medical College and Hospital was established in 2004. Earlier, the college was known as Midnapur Sadar Hospital, West Midnapur, but to provide medical study to the young generation, the Government of West Bengal changed its name. The college is approved by the Medical Council of India, Government of India, New Delhi. Midnapore Medical College and Hospital is affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Science and it imparts course in the field of medical science, at the undergraduate level.
 

Beginning it's journey in the year of 1969 as ‘Burdwan University Medical College’ by the University of Burdwan, it was taken over by the Government of West Bengal on 4 August 1976, and renamed as Burdwan Medical College. In the year 2003 the College remained as the sole Medical College under the academic jurisdiction of Burdwan University until it was taken up by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in 2003.

One student by name Manasa had been selected for Republic day parade in Jan-26th 2012 as NSS volunteer . One student by name M. Niharika of 2014 batch had received state best NSS volunteer award on Sep-24th 2018. SVIMS-Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women was established in the year 2014 with an annual intake of 150 students for MBBS Degree Course. SVIMS established this Medical College exclusively for Women. SVIMS-Sri Padmavathi Medical College for women was started in SVIMS premises, Tirupati.  Further, the TTDs was kind enough in allotting 50 acres of land, in addition to the existing 57.04 acres within the campus.  An extent of 26.2 acres of vacant land is utilized for developing the facilities like Medical College, Teaching Hospital, Library and Residential complex by APMSIDC, Govt.
