Kakatiya Medical College was founded in 1959 by the Warangal Regional Medical Education society with the active support of then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the Director of Medical Services of A.P and the Warangal District Collector to provide medical education for register of the Telangana region of the state.

It was established in 1989 as Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, commonly referred to as JN Hospital. It has 21 departments, with the addition of a separate Dental College in 2017. As of May 2019, there have been 11 academic batches, nine of the MBBS course and two of the BDS course.
