OVERVIEW

 

Kakatiya Medical College was founded in 1959 by the Warangal Regional Medical Education society with the active support of then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the Director of Medical Services of A.P and the Warangal District Collector to provide medical education for register of the Telangana region of the state.

The College has inaugurated on 23 July 1959 by the Honourable Sri P. Karmarkar, Minister of Health, Government of India. It was originally located in a building donated by the pingable family at Waddepally and it moved into the make-shift buildings constructed at the permanent site in November 1961.

152.17 acres (0.6158 km2) of land was acquired for the medical college in Warangal and the permanent building of the college was constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs. 47 lakhs. Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, inaugurated the permanent campus in 1966.

The temporary sheds which were constructed earlier at cost of Rs.10.70 Lakhs, in 1961 had been remodeled to the boy's hostel. A Permanent building for the girl's hostel was also constructed and Inaugurated by Sri J.Chokka Rao, Chairman A.P Regional Committee in1970. A hostel for boys has Inaugurated by Sri H.C Sarin I.C.S then advisor to Governor A.P on 20-06-1973.

An Impressive Auditorium with an open-air stage was constructed at cost of Rs. 4 Lakhs behind the College with Cinematographic equipment, accommodates 500 registers.

The A.P Housing board constructed staff quarters with a guest house in the college campus which fulfills the residential needs of staff. On either side of the college building, there are two buildings having a cloakroom, canteen, Andhra Bank, Post office & Engineering Depts.

In addition, R.M.E.S have constructed O.P. Block, T.B Block, Lecture Hall, Clinical lab, and Mortuary in the premises of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Warangal.

The A.P Govt. took over the college from R.M.E.S. in Feb 1977. in the same year, The college affiliation was transferred to Kakatiya University from that of Osmania University. With effect from 1-03-87, the College has affiliated University of Health Sciences, now NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada.

The P.G. Courses were started in 1972 and the college is conducting P.G. courses in all the Depts. The present status college owes entirely to the great architect with the broad future vision of Late Prof. T.Lakshminarayana, the Dynamic Principal of the College (1960-1965).

All the P.G Courses are recognized by M.C.I (Medical Council of India).

In the year 2006-2007 Intermedics sports meet was conducted in our college with NTR U.H.S sponsoring for medical colleges& dental colleges in the state. The new N.M.H hostel was inaugurated by Hon'ble C.M, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Dr. Divvela Mohandas M.S (General Surgeon), Principal/Addl. DME

 

On October 2, 1964, Dr. Divvela Mohandas, son of D. V. Subba Rao, was born. Dr. Divvela graduated from Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal with an MBBS (1981 Batch). Dr. Divvela postgraduated from Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad with a master's degree in general surgery (1989-1992). Dr. Divvela worked at Mangapet and Shyampet as a CAS ( (1992-1994). Dr. Divvela worked as an Assistant Professor at MGM Hospital in Warangal from 1994 to 2006, and as an Associate Professor at Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada and MGM Warangal from 2006 to 2012. Dr. Divvela has been a Professor at MGM Hospital in Warangal since January 2013. Dr. Divvela also worked as SURGICAL Registrar from 2008 to 2013. Along with his professorship, Dr. Divvela was elevated as Deputy Superintendent, MGM Hospital, Warangal, in 2017. Also, from January 2017 to January 2020 served as HOD PF General Surgery. Dr. Divvela is now serving as Principal of Kakatyia Medical College in Warangal, in addition to his normal professional responsibilities.

Dr. Divvela served as Chairman for the ASICON TELANGANA STATE CONFERENCE, which was held at Warangal (September 2019). At MGM Hospital, Dr. Divvela successfully conducted Colorectal, Hernia, Johnson, and suturing techniques training while serving as the HOD. Sir, presented his research findings at various conferences (like ASI, etc.,) and published in various international journals. Dr. Divvela also serving as external and internal examiner for PGs and UGs for a decade. Under his noble guidance, more than 25 batches of UGs and PGs completed their thesis work in general surgery and published their novel findings in various reputed international journals.

Dr. Divvela is "Dr. Gandhi" of Mahathma Gandhi Memorial (MGM), Hospital, Warangal.

One of the premier medical institutes of Telangana, currently taking in 250 students each year for MBBS and conducting post-graduate courses in all departments, our college has produced efficient and eminent health care providers.

Here at KMC, the experienced, well-qualified, and dedicated faculty does not aim at spoon-feeding the students but ensures that their instructions facilitate wholesome development in the medical practitioners, thus preparing them for tomorrow's medicine. Libraries and reading rooms on the campus make theoretical knowledge easily accessible to the students.

Well-equipped laboratories and associated well-acclaimed hospitals including, the newly built super specialty hospital with state-of-the-art facilities enable our students to keep up with the advancements in the medical field; thereby moulding their scientific and technical temperament aiding the right diagnosis, , treatment, and follow-up strategies. The high patient influx caters to the practical needs of the students, building doctors with astute perception and absolute compassion.

Sports and extra-curricular activities in the form of various fests and exhibitions boost their confidence, inculcates team spirit and coordination, and creates opportunities for them to break their bubble and have a comprehensive outlook in life. In-campus hostels provide good and safe accommodation away from their homes paving the way to an independent and disciplined lifestyle. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae; abbreviated in many ways, most commonly MBBS, but also MB ChB, BMBS, MB BCh, MB BChir), is the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The historical degree nomenclature states that they are two separate undergraduate degrees. In practice, however, they are usually combined as one and conferred together, and may also be awarded at graduate-level medical schools.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), is a professional degree in medical science. A person holding the MBBS degree becomes a certified medical practitioner. The duration of MBBS course is five years and six months including one year of rotational internship at hospitals, health centres, and health camps organised by non-profit organisations (NGOs). MBBS course syllabus includes studies on anatomy, pharmacology, pathology as well as community health & medicine, paediatrics, and surgery. The syllabus, prescribed in such a way that MBBS degree holders can choose a specialisation for further majoring and practising medicine. The career specialisations for MBBS students are Nephrology, Cardiology, Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Organ Transplant, Endocrine, and General Surgery, etc.

MD - Anaesthesiology

The purpose of PG education is to create specialists who would provide high quality health care and advance the cause of science through research & training. A post graduate specialist having undergone the required training in anesthesiology should be able to recognize the health needs of the community. He or she should be competent to handle effectively medical problems and should be aware of the recent advances pertaining to his/her specialty. She/he should be highly competent anesthesiologist with broad range of skills that will enable him/her to practice anesthesiology independently. The PG student should also acquire the basic skills in teaching of medical/para-medical students. She/he is also expected to know the principles of research methodology and modes of consulting library. She/he should attend conferences, workshops and CMEs regularly to upgrade his/her knowledge. The purpose of this document is to provide teachers and learners illustrative guidelines to achieve defined outcomes through learning and assessment. This document was prepared by various subject-content specialists. The Reconciliation Board of the Academic Committee has attempted to render uniformity without compromise to purpose and content of the document. Compromise in purity of syntax has been made in order to preserve the purpose and content. This has necessitated retention of “domains of learning” under the heading “competencies”

MD - Psychiatry

M. D. in Psychiatry is a Clinical Speciality course.

Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry explores the major psychiatric syndromes like psychotic, mood and anxiety disorders, psychological effects of physical diseases, the doctor-patient relationship, human development, patient interviewing, and ethical issues in medicine. It is a three-year postgraduation course and can be pursued by any MBBS holders from a University recognized by Medical council of India. Most psychiatrists practice general psychiatry. Sub-specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Geriatric psychiatry can be conducted after M. D. in Psychiatry.
