History

Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) – The Medical College and Teaching Hospital is promoted by Kamineni Education Society, Hyderabad since 1999 with annual admission of 100 students in MBBS Course which was increased to 150 from 2006. The institution has permission from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for 200 admissions from 2015 onwards. The College is permitted by Medical Council of India to start Post Graduate [Degree & Diploma] Courses in 22 specialties in phased manner from 2005. The recognition for P.G [Degree & Diploma] courses by Medical Council of India is accorded in a phased manner from 2008.

The KIMS is located at Sreepuram, Narketpally, Nalgonda Dist. 89Kms from Hyderabad and 190 Kms from Vijayawada on National Highway – 9 (Hyderabad – Vijayawada). Magnificence of the Institute and Hospital buildings complement the 34.65 acres landscape in which they are built. Special emphasis is laid on the lawns, avenue trees, flower gardens etc., which gives an aesthetics touch to the entire panorama. This together with its location gives the campus a serene atmosphere, which is indispensable in imparting Quality Education.

With an atmosphere like that of the Vedic ages, the Institute equally boasts of global standards when it comes to Technology. The ultra-modern infrastructural facilities motivates the staff and students alike, to scale greater heights. The Quality Standards maintained and the faculties appointed are as per norms of the National Medical Commission. Since the inception, there has been relentless growth & constant upgradation making the Institute, a center par excellence. Along with Qualitative Teaching Methods, self-learning is equally encouraged through “Sahithi” – the Library which is a separate building housing thousands of Textbooks, Journals, Periodicals, Magazines, CD-ROM titles, digital library etc.

There are separate hostels for boys & girls. Samhitha, Samskruthi, Samyuktha,Samatha, Sadhbhavana, Samyami, NRI block hostels for Girls & Samyami hostel for boys. Together they can accommodate more than 1200 students. All rooms are well furnished and ventilated. Hygienic & nutritious food is cooked on steam cooking facility and served in separate dining halls for boys and girls. Continuous treated drinking water facility caters to the inmates of the campus. Separate accommodations are available for NRI students. Air-conditioned accommodation are available for Boys & Girls. Two Generators of 500 KV each ensure continuous power supply for the Campus. The Campus has recreational facilities like Games room, Multi-purpose Auditorium and separate Gymnasium & Playgrounds for boys and girls to keep the students spirits high. . GENERAL INFORMATION

Location:

Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences is located in the rural Area of Sreepuram, Narketpally, Nalgonda (Dist), Telangana State, beside National Highway No. 64.

Working Hours:

  • The College works from 8.00 A.M to 4.00 P.M on all working days
  • The hospital works round the clock with all emergency services.
  • The Central Library from 8.00 AM to 12.00 Midnight on all working days & up to 4.00PM on Sundays

Student Uniform for Undergraduates, Interns and Postgraduates:  

Uniform for undergraduate students is separate for boys and girls. Girls have green kurta and grey salwar and boys have off white safari suit. All have to wear a white apron and an UG identification card of KIMS.

Uniform for interns is violet scrub for both boys and girls, white apron and an Intern identification card of KIMS.

Uniform for Postgraduates is blue scrub for both boys and girls, white apron and an PG identification card of KIMS.

Staff Uniform: Formal dress/ Sari with white apron and a faculty identification card of KIMS.

Visiting Hours:

  • Parents can meet Principal/HOD/Faculty between 3.00 PM to 4.00 PM on working days
  • Parents can meet their ward (hostellers) after 4.00 PM on working days & from 7.00 AM to 7.00 PM on Sundays & Public holidays, in visitors’ room.
  • Other visitors can meet administrators from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM on working days.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae; abbreviated in many ways, most commonly MBBS, but also MB ChB, BMBS, MB BCh, MB BChir), is the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The historical degree nomenclature states that they are two separate undergraduate degrees. In practice, however, they are usually combined as one and conferred together, and may also be awarded at graduate-level medical schools.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), is a professional degree in medical science. A person holding the MBBS degree becomes a certified medical practitioner. The duration of MBBS course is five years and six months including one year of rotational internship at hospitals, health centres, and health camps organised by non-profit organisations (NGOs). MBBS course syllabus includes studies on anatomy, pharmacology, pathology as well as community health & medicine, paediatrics, and surgery. The syllabus, prescribed in such a way that MBBS degree holders can choose a specialisation for further majoring and practising medicine. The career specialisations for MBBS students are Nephrology, Cardiology, Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Organ Transplant, Endocrine, and General Surgery, etc.

MD - Anaesthesiology

The purpose of PG education is to create specialists who would provide high quality health care and advance the cause of science through research & training. A post graduate specialist having undergone the required training in anesthesiology should be able to recognize the health needs of the community. He or she should be competent to handle effectively medical problems and should be aware of the recent advances pertaining to his/her specialty. She/he should be highly competent anesthesiologist with broad range of skills that will enable him/her to practice anesthesiology independently. The PG student should also acquire the basic skills in teaching of medical/para-medical students. She/he is also expected to know the principles of research methodology and modes of consulting library. She/he should attend conferences, workshops and CMEs regularly to upgrade his/her knowledge. The purpose of this document is to provide teachers and learners illustrative guidelines to achieve defined outcomes through learning and assessment. This document was prepared by various subject-content specialists. The Reconciliation Board of the Academic Committee has attempted to render uniformity without compromise to purpose and content of the document. Compromise in purity of syntax has been made in order to preserve the purpose and content. This has necessitated retention of “domains of learning” under the heading “competencies”

MD - Psychiatry

M. D. in Psychiatry is a Clinical Speciality course.

Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry explores the major psychiatric syndromes like psychotic, mood and anxiety disorders, psychological effects of physical diseases, the doctor-patient relationship, human development, patient interviewing, and ethical issues in medicine. It is a three-year postgraduation course and can be pursued by any MBBS holders from a University recognized by Medical council of India. Most psychiatrists practice general psychiatry. Sub-specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Geriatric psychiatry can be conducted after M. D. in Psychiatry.
