It was the winter of 2008 when I stepped into the hallows of this magnificent institute named the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai. As they say the name follows the repute, I had heard a lot of good about this institute from various sources, over a long period of time, but actually being a council member of such an institute was a dream come true for me. With the support of my fellow council members and medical community at large, I was successfully elected the president of CPS in the year 2012.

The ENT Department has been initially recognised by National Board of Examinations, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi as a Postgraduate Training Institute since 1984 for training PG students for Diplomate NB(Otorhinolaryngology).

From the academic year 1990-91 this PG Training Institute has obtained affiliation from Shivaji University, Kolhapur for training PG candidates for MS(ENT) and DLO(ENT) with intake capacity as follows : MS (ENT) 1 Candidate per year and DLO (ENT) 2 Candidates per year.

HISTORY

Sassoon General Hospitals is a large state-run hospital in Pune, India with 1296 beds. It is affiliated to the B. J. Medical College and a Nurses training School. Sassoon Hospital caters to 9,426,959 population of Pune District- a 2nd most populous district in the State of Maharashtra.

The Jewish philanthropist David Sassoon from Mumbai made a generous donation to make the construction of the hospital possible in 1867. The hospital could originally accommodate 144 patients.

The Inception

Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, was established in 1996. It was Dr. P. D. Patil, Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune’s vision and desire to set up one of the best College, Hospital and Research Centre in Maharashtra and across the country. His efforts bore fruit and with the blessings of Hon’ble Dr. D. Y. Patil, Ex-Governor, Bihar and Tripura the Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre was started.

Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust has been working for the last 50 years for social & spiritual upliftment of the poor. The Aim is to provide human beings basic needs, such as food, water, clothing, shelter, education, and medical aid for their physical survival discourse for their self-realization. The maximum concentration is however on Dervan and surrounding villages. All these activities are carried out irrespective of caste, creed or religion of the person whom help is rendered. The person who commits himself to his work can find the God.

This prestigious institute was founded in 1963 by Dr. Vishnu Ganesh Vaishampayan.The Undergraduate MCI recognition for MBBS Courses was obtained in 1974. Initially a private medical college,it was overtaken by government in 1977.MCI recognition for post graduate courses was obtained in 1977.The progress of the college continues till today and now it’s one of the most recognized college for Undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in India.
