The Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust is the parent body of MGM Institute of Health Sciences which was established in 1982 by Hon’ble Shri Kamalkishore N. Kadam with a futuristic vision to provide qualitative education by applying innovative and dynamic pedagogical techniques. Since inception, the Trust has focused on providing Health Care Services, School Education and Higher Education with dedication and commitment.

Founders of MGM Institute of Health Sciences Trust are a group of highly dedicated and socially committed individuals. All its members are highly qualified Engineers, Doctors and Scientist. MGM Institute of Health Sciences Trust is run under the able guidance of Shri Kamalkishore N. Kadam, M.Tech (IIT-Mumbai), Chairman of the Trust and Ex-Minister of Education, Maharashtra and the Trustees Shri Ankushrao N. Kadam (B.E.), Dr. P.M. Jadhav (FRCS, U.K.), Dr. S.N. Kadam (FRCP, Edin.), Dr. Nitin N. Kadam (MD, DCH) and Shri U.N. Kadam (B.E.).

The MGM Institute of Health Sciences has been notified as a Deemed to be University i.e. “MGM Institute of Health Sciences” vide Notification No. F.9-21/2005-U.3 (A) dated 30.08.2006 issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, New Delhi. The Academic Year 2013-14 has been a monumental milestone in the history of MGM Institute of Health Sciences. It has been rated Grade ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) after a vigorous inspection of its campuses and the two Medical Colleges at Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad.

As a Research Centre, it shall focus on finding better, safer and affordable ways of diagnosing, treating and preventing diseases. In doing so, it will maintain highest ethical standard.
 

A Small beginning was made in 1982 when MGM Trust established small hospital at Nanded, a poorly developed district, with view to provide access to basic medical care to the needy and poor and with a long term vision of improving health care services of the region.

MGM Medical College, Navi Mumbai is established in 1989, has grown from strength to strength and earned a name for imparting quality education, excellence in research and providing community health services.

The College is determined to outshine the yardstick set, thus uplifting to higher trajectory in developing, designing and delivery of curriculum, training the budding doctors to acquire clinical acumen and skills and promoting and supporting research relevant to local, regional and national needs.

With our feet firmly on the ground, we have kept pace with technology and globalization. While inducting latest diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for patient management, we are part of the academic collaboration programmes entered into by MGM Medical College with National and International institutes to expose students to newly emerging trends in medical science.

Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC), MGM Medical College, Navi-Mumbai is presently recognised as a registered body by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) under the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, Government of India.

It functions according to the requirements laid down in Schedule-Y and are guided by the ICH GCP guidelines, Ethical Principles set forth in the Declaration of Helsinki and the Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research on Human Participants laid down by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

The purpose of the IEC is to protect human subjects through ensuring highest ethical standards and conduct in biomedical research (including scientific and ethical review). IEC Endeavours to protect and promote the dignity, rights and well-being of potential research participants; ensure that universal ethical values and international scientific standards are adhered to and contextualized to suit the local community.

The IEC is headed by a Chairperson and supported by 10 other relevant expertise members including the Member Secretary. The composition of the IEC is a mix of members from different disciplines including medical specialist, eminent scientist, basic medical scientist, clinicians, pharmacologist, microbiologist, legal expert, social worker and lay person.
